COVID UPDATES – DISTANCING, WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS
As announced recently by the First Minister, there are a few changes to our present Covid restrictions/rules within our Church buildings.
SOCIAL DISTANCING
Depending on the data closer to the time, the Government intends to reduce social distancing indoors to 1 metre on 19 July and abolish it on 9 August. Obviously, these are big steps for getting our Church back to normal – altering our seating arrangements to accommodate more parishioners. These arrangements will be confirmed nearer the time.
WEDDINGS
From Monday 28 June the person (such as the Father of the Bride) accompanying either of the couple down the aisle does not need to wear a face-covering whilst doing so (Bride and Bridegroom do not need to wear face coverings at weddings). Although it is not entirely clear, this does seem to apply to only one person for each spouse, and so the Bridesmaids, flower-girls, page boys etc would still need to wear face coverings (unless otherwise exempt).
FUNERALS
From Monday 28 June, families can once again carry coffins into/out of Church and lower coffins into the grave, if the Funeral Directors and/or burial staff are content for that to happen and if it is safe to do so. Everyone carrying the coffin must wear a face covering (unless exempt) and be encouraged to sanitise hands before and after doing so.
CLEANING OF THE CHURCH
We ask for more volunteers to help with ‘deep cleaning’ and sanitising of the Church during the summer months – to help relieve the work of our present cleaners and perhaps offer them a rest. Deep cleaning and sanitising takes place each Saturday morning from 10am to 11am – any length of time (given by volunteers during this hour) would be most appreciated. Our grateful thanks to all our parish cleaners at weekends/weekdays and to our parish stewards and to all the parishioners who have organised our Sunday weekend Mass telephone bookings – again we are truly thankful for these and all services and sacrifices given by our parishioners for the benefit of us all.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
We wish all our school children, their teachers and families a well-earned, safe and peaceful rest in the company of family, friends and loved ones.
ANNIVERSARIES
We wish all those who are celebrating Wedding Anniversaries at this time of the year continued happiness and joy in the years ahead – to all brother priests, religious and deacons the strength to continue to serve God’s people in humility, charity, respect, joy and compassion in imitation of our Lord and Master, Jesus.

THE LIVING SPIRIT
I just returned from a walk through the dark woods. It was cool and windy, but everything spoke of you. Everything: the clouds, the sound of the wind. They all spoke of your resurrection – they all made me aware that everything is indeed good. In you all is created good and by you, all creation is renewed and brought to an even greater glory than it possessed at its beginning.
O Lord, I know now that it is in silence, in a quiet moment, in a forgotten corner that you will meet me, call me by name and speak to me a word of peace. It is in my stillest hour that you become the risen Lord to me. (Henri Nouwen – ‘From A Cry For Mercy’).
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK (MINISTRY OF SPIRITUAL CARE)
Both Deacon Tommy and Fr Frank are available to bring Holy Communion to any of our parishioners who are presently unable to attend Mass. Please let us know to arrange a home visit.
