SPRED – SEPTEMBER 2022

My Dear Friends – The work of SPRED (Special Religious Development) is to welcome our fellow parishioners who, due to a learning or developmental disability such as Downs Syndrome or autism, need extra help to take their place in the Church. We create small groups of people with and without disabilities across the Archdiocese that act as a bridge to parish life. SPRED groups support those who come to them to contribute their unique gifts to their parish communities.

Delivering SPRED’s special ministry needs resources, including money and people, and for that we rely on your continued support. Your generosity last year enabled us to reopen groups that had to close due to the pandemic. We were also able to open two new groups where parents and their primary school aged children with additional needs are able to grow in faith together. Any contribution you are able to make to our work this year will be gratefully received.

As much as money, we are seeking new people to join a SPRED group and be a friend to someone who needs SPRED’s support. All you need to join one of our groups is a warm heart and a desire to put your faith into action. A short training programme will give you the practical skills you need. In return we offer you the opportunity to be part of a really special ministry, to make new friends and to grow in your own faith.

SPRED also needs your prayers. Please pray for our work, that everyone who needs SPRED’s support may be able to join a SPRED group and have their own special faith companion.

On behalf of the Trustees of SPRED

Pierpaolo Pacitti
Chair of the SPRED Board of Management.

ST NINIAN’S BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

St Ninian’s Bereavement Support Group has been offering support to our bereaved families, at certain points on their grief journey, for a number of years. At the time of the funeral, one of the group attends the funeral to express our sympathy and to give a card to the family in the name of our Parish, assuring them of our prayerful support.

When the family is reasonably local, we make contact again by phone, after about 3 months, to express our continuing care and to see how they are. We invite the family to return to a Sunday Mass which is being offered for their deceased family member. An invitation card is given to them either in person or, more usually, by post.

We arrange the Annual Mass of All Souls on the 2nd November. A personal invitation is sent to every family who has suffered bereavement in the year.

As a group we meet every 2 months for support and ongoing planning.

We are always looking for new people to join the Bereavement Group. Is this a ministry you might feel drawn to? If you are interested please speak to Sr. Anne – 0141 434 1371 or to Fr Frank.
